Ben Holbrook · Gower, Swansea
About
Ben Holbrook is a full-time wedding photographer based on the Gower Peninsula in Swansea, shooting documentary photography with an editorial edge across Wales and the South West of England.
Approach
I grew up on the Gower and still live here, which means most of the coastline, half the country lanes and a good number of the venues in south Wales are already familiar ground. I photograph weddings quietly. No stopping the day to rearrange it, no long lists of group shots, no asking anyone to do something twice.
Guests usually assume I am a friend of the couple, and that is about the best thing that can happen. Once people stop noticing the camera they go back to being themselves, and that is where the photographs worth keeping come from. Documentary in how it is shot, editorial in how it is edited.
Before weddings I spent years as a travel writer and photographer in Barcelona and London, shooting for National Geographic Traveller and the Telegraph among others, and writing two travel books along the way. I hold a first-class degree in Photography from Falmouth University. I still shoot 35mm film on most wedding days, which is where the warm, muted colour in the digital work comes from too.
